The Haircut is the fourth episode in the series.

Summary[]

Plot[]

Beaver has been losing money left and right, much to Ward's dismay. Ward in turn, gives him one more chance, and gives him money for a haircut at the neighborhood barber shop, as Beaver is going to be singing in an upcoming school pageant. But naturally, Beaver loses that money as well and despite attempted negotiations, Beaver goes on to leave the barber shop with no haircut.

Afraid to admit he lost the money yet again, Beaver, with help from Wally, decides to give himself a haircut, with disasterous results. To cover the mess, the two boys put stockings on their heads and wear them to dinner, they claim to their parents that they joined a secret club which involves wearing stockings non-stop, for two weeks as initiation.

Ward and June seem to accept it, but suspect that it had to do with the haircut Beaver was supposed to get. That night, they sneak into Beaver's room and look under his cap, to see his mess of a head, much to June's horror. The next day, Ward confronts the boys about their deception, and demands to see Beaver's head. June can only look at Beaver's horrible haircut for a few seconds before making him put his stocking back on. Ward promises to punish the two boys for this, and sends them to their room.

June thinks Ward is being too hard on the boys, as he unwittingly gave Beaver the wrong message earlier about the haircut money being his last chance. Ward reluctantly agrees, and decides not to punish the boys, but he does remind them that they can always come to him or their mother whenever they have a problem. Beaver ends up singing in the pageant with the stocking cap on.
